Our collection BioAroma essential oils, for aromatherapy at home.

Aromatherapy; is a type of alternative medicine that uses essential oils and other aromatic plant compounds which are aimed at improving a person’s health or mood. Many consider this type of treatment as unscientific and wishful thinking – however, scientific evidence of its effectiveness is growing. This study acknowledged that aromatherapy makes you feel good although there was no evidence that it makes you well. The essential oils used in aromatherapy have a different composition compared to other herbal products because the distillation used in aromatherapy recovers the lighter phytomolecules

Aromatherapy is a widely used term for a range of traditional therapies that use essential oils. These may include massage oils, or any topical application that uses pure, essential oils – the essential oils are either absorbed through the skin or inhaled. We are not completely sure what the source of the benefit is – the massage, the smell or both.

The theory behind aromatherapy.
It is believed that the inhalation of essential oils stimulates the part of the brain connected to smell – the olfactory system; a signal is sent to the limbic system of the brain that controls emotions and retrieves learned memories. This causes chemicals to be released which make the person feel relaxed, calm, or even stimulated. If the aromatherapy includes massage the effect is to further relax the person.

Set 3 essential oils.
BioAroma Essential oils with a burner.

The BioAroma essential oils are said to have a direct pharmacological effect. Aromatherapists claim there is a synergy between the body and aromatic oils; however, there is no scientific proof that this is the case. Nevertheless, some preliminary clinical studies have revealed positive results.

Essential oils, phytoncides and other natural volatile organic compounds (VOCs) work differently. When targeting our sense of smell they activate the limbic system and emotional centres of the brain. When applied topically (onto the skin) they activate thermal receptors and destroy microbes and fungi. An internal application may stimulate the immune system (generally in the prescribed form).

Application of aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is generally applied in one of three ways:

  • Aerial diffusion – the oils evaporate into the air. The aim is to give the air a specific fragrance or to disinfect it.
  • Direct inhalation – the person breaths the evaporating oils straight in. This is commonly used for respiratory disinfection, decongestion, as well as for psychological benefits.
  • Topical applications – applied onto the skin. Commonly used for massage, baths, and therapeutic skin care.

Digestive Health: Bay leaves have a very strong effect on the gastrointestinal system, both stimulating urination as a diuretic, which decreases the toxicity of the body, but also stimulating vomiting (as an emetic) when something toxic has been consumed. Furthermore, the organic compounds found in bay leaves are very effective for settling upset stomachs, soothing irritable bowel syndrome, or even lessening the symptoms of Celiac’s disease. Some of the more complex proteins in our modern diet can be difficult to digest, but the unique enzymes found in bay leaves help to facilitate efficient digestion and nutrient intake.
Respiratory Conditions: When the essential oil of bay leaves is extracted, it can be mixed into a salve and applied to the chest to help alleviate various respiratory conditions. This can also be achieved with a poultice made of the leaves. Spread it on the chest and allow it to remain overnight. A herb tea made with fresh savory is a great tonic in the morning. Add a drop of honey.

To make an aphrodisiac wine similar to that of the ancients, add 5 g (1/4 oz) savory leaves, 15 ml (1 tbsp) sugar or fructose, and 5 ml (1 tsp) Angostura bitters to a bottle of good port or Madeira. Steep for a while, then drink a glass when you need it.

We produce our pasta from the highest quality Greek traditional variety of durum wheat called “Mavragani”. The grain is stone ground into flour in order to maintain all of its natural characteristics.

Our pasta production is made in small lots, slowly extruded through bronze dies in order to produce pasta with rough surface and exceptional texture which optimizes sauce adhesion.

Finally pasta is slowly air dried at low temperatures ensuring that most of both natural aroma and flavor remain unharmed.

        Olive leaf tea.

        NOTIO __Olive Leaf Tea__

NOTIO olive leaf tea (35 gr.)

Olive leaf tea has been enjoyed since the ancient times, in Greece and around the Mediterranean, as a full-flavoured,
antioxidant and extremely healthy beverage. The olive leaf tea is a proven rich source of oleuropein, hydroxytyrosol as well as several other polyphenols and flavonoids, among the most powerful antioxidants and immunostimulators.

Our Notio Olive Leaf Tea is a very special and unique product with a smooth, aromatic and a slightly bitter delicious taste. It is produced from the dried leaves of our sustainably grown olive trees, as well as the thick forests of wild olive trees in our family-owned estate in Kalamata, Greece.

At the Notio οlive grove, we hand-pick selected new and tender leaves from our trees during late February through mid-May, in the morning hours, once the dews have dried.

We naturally air dry the leaves for approximately four weeks, and keep them away from direct sunlight, so as to preserve their nutritional value. Then we pick every single leaf by hand, remove the stalks, slice, weigh, and pack without any mechanical means.

A full teaspoon (about 2 g) of dried olive leaves, makes 2-3 cups of olive leaf tea. Place the leaves in hot – not boiling – water. The leaves take a while to infuse (from 10 to 15 minutes). Strain and enjoy your healthy beverage, hot or refrigerated for an equally lovely iced tea.

Variety: Koroneiki & wild olive trees (Olea oleaster)
Harvest: Late February till mid May.
        100% Natural and Vegetarian product.
This product does NOT contain sugar, alcohol, dairy, wheat or gluten.
        Caffeine and Tannin- free.
